IFA 2013 hasn’t even started, but the companies are trying to take first-mover advantage by unveiling devices, which will actually be showcased in IFA only. Today HTC announced the addition of two more devices in its Desire range dubbed as Desire 300 and Desire 601. Although everybody was also hoping to see the HTC One Max phablet as well. Unlike its One series which is available at the upper-end, the Desire series caters to the users with entry-level and mid-level budgets. Let’s check what these devices packs in-
HTC Desire 300 is the entry-level smartphone with a 4.3 inches TFT touchscreen. It bears a resolution of 480 x 800 pixels, resulting in decent pixel density of 217 ppi. The design of the smartphone is pretty basic with plastic body. It’s very handy and portable with dimensions of 131.8 x 66.2 x 10.1 mm and weight of 120 g. Other design elements of the device are similar to other HTC smartphones.
Talking about internal, it’s being powered by a dual-core 1 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Play processor and Adreno 203 GPU for rendering graphics. It’s backed by a 512 MB RAM, which would usually be enough for processing basic tasks, but might result in lagging of the smartphone when multiple apps are running in the background. In memory department, it has 4 GB internal storage, which can be further expanded to 32 GB via microSD card. It’s fueled by a Li-ion battery of 1650 mAh claiming to give backup of up to 11 hours during 3G.
It packs a 5 MP camera at the back with autofocus. It comes with various features like geo-tagging, face detection and touch focus. It’s able to record videos at 800 x 480 resolution @ 30 fps. It also offers a front camera of VGA quality for video calling needs.
Don’t go by the name, Desire 601 might seem as minor upgrade to Desire 600, but actually it’s really capable mid-range device sitting at the top of Desire lineage.
It flaunts a 4.5 inch TFT display with qHD resolution (540 x 960 pixels), translating to pixel density of 245 ppi. It also sports a plastic body, but the design is largely inspired by HTC One itself with two front speakers for BoomSound feature. It comes in in various colors like Black, Silver and Red.
It’s powered by a 1.4 GHz Snapdragon 400 dual-core processor along with Adreno 305 graphics processor. A 1 GB RAM ensures that the device delivers smooth performance for multitasking or powerful games. For memory, it has 8 GB in-built storage with option of expanding it up to 64 GB via microSD card. It has a 2100 mAh Li-ion battery providing it talk time of up to 12 hours during 3G.
For shutterbugs, it has a 5 MP camera with LED flash and auto-focus and useful features like geo-tagging, touch focus. Etc. It’s supports Full HD video recording at 30 fps. For video chatting purposes, it has a VGA secondary camera.
Both the device provides support for usual connectivity features like 2G/ 3G, Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi and GPS. Although, Desire 601 also adds 4G LTE connectivity.
The devices are loaded with Android 4.2.2 OS with Sense 5 UI. This means they will have BlinkFeed feature, but Desire 601 also gets Zoes and Video Highlights functionality.
Both the smartphones will be available globally from October 2013 and their pricing will be announced later.
Along with new launches, HTC also launched One and One Mini in ‘Vivid Blue’ colors.
